Belmont University Undergraduate Catalog 2016-17

Minor in Education

The minor in Education consists of six education (EDU) courses, the Professional Education Core and two additional EDU courses. The minor emphasizes education as a point of advocacy and addresses construction of knowledge, equitable learning environments, and child and adolescent development. The minor is open to students of all majors and is also the primary vehicle for competencies required in the Belmont Teacher Education 4+1 Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT).

Belmont students who are planning to enter the graduate MAT program, who have completed the 18 credit hour professional education minor at Belmont University in the undergraduate program, with grades of 'C' or above in each course, and a GPA in the minor of 3.0 or above, may use the Minor in Education to meet competencies in the MAT graduate program. As part of this path, Belmont undergraduates apply for graduate school during their undergraduate senior year. If accepted for admission and after undergraduate graduation, students complete the Internship in the "plus one" year and earn an MAT degree.

All students who chose the Minor in Education must also complete the Education Department’s Gateway 2 Assessment as part of the requirements for the minor.
