Vision:
The College of Visual and Performing Arts strives to be an active community that encourages imagination, nurtures creativity and promotes intellectual and professional growth in the arts.
Purpose:
To provide challenging education experiences in music, theatre and drama and visual art that foster aesthetic values, artistic understanding and creative skills.
Goals:
1. To offer curricula appropriate to students seeking an academic major in music, theatre and drama, or visual art.
2. To offer academic classes, art and music lessons and performance experiences for students majoring in other disciplines.
3. To provide arts-related events which enrich the cultural life of the university and community.
4. To promote life-long valuing of the arts.
The College of Visual and Performing Arts is composed of the Department of Art, School of Music, and Department of Theatre and Dance:
Students in the Department of Art select from three majors leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts and one major leading to the Bachelor of Arts.
Students in the School of Music may select from nine majors leading to the Bachelor of Music, the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Music, and four majors leading to the Master of Music.
Students studying in the Department of Theatre and Drama receive the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Theatre and Drama or the Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre.
Students may pursue a minor in art, music, theatre and drama or dance. All of these degrees are designed for students who wish to prepare for professional careers in the arts or graduate school in arts-related areas.
