Voice

The Performance Major is planned for students who exhibit exceptional potential as performers in their principal applied area.  The program provides training for those desiring careers as professional performers and/or studio teachers.  It is the best preparation for graduate study with emphasis in performance.  The table below lists required coursework for students in this major whose applied area is voice.

1 Classical Vocal Performance majors are required to take24 hours of language: FRE 1010, 1020; GER 1010, 1020; and ITL 1010, 1020. Seven (7) of the total 24 hours of language will be met through the Bell Core-four hours (4) through the humanities requirement, and the 3 hours through the 3 hour non-music elective requirement. If 2000 level languages are taken (which carry 3 hours credit instead of 4), extra hours are taken as electives.

2 No more than 24 hours in voice may be counted toward degree requirements.

3 Secondary Piano study must be continued until the piano proficiency is passed. If proficiency is passed prior to completing four semesters, student take choice of secondary area for remaining semester(s). For keyboard principals, secondary area must be four semesters in the same instrument or voice.
